Thursday 27 June 2019 was a beautiful summers day for a beautiful summers Awards evening. We hosted our annual Pro-Action Member Awards #PAMAwards at The Fielder Centre in Hatfield, kindly supported by Conference Hertfordshire.
The evening celebrated young photography talent from Hertfordshire and the amazing individuals and organisations working across the county to provide exceptional services to children and young people.
The event started with a welcome buffet where more than 100 guests mingled, took Instagram frame shots and tried to guess the number of balls in a jar, for a chance to win a large bag of sports kit.
The guests were then lead into the auditorium where the more formal part of the evening took place. Dave Green, our CEO welcomed everybody followed by some words from our Chair, Siobhan Purvis, who highlighted the challenges Pro-Action had been facing with the promise of more great work to come and a warm thanks to Dave, who has announced plans to retire later in the year.
Our Member Herts Inclusive Theatre showcased a short film about the great work they do with young people across the county, which made for compelling and heart warming viewing. We then had the pleasure of viewing the new Pro-Action Member video, which highlighted the exceptional work of our Members and the way in which Pro-Action support them.
After this, it was the moment we'd all been waiting for...discovering the winners of our awards! Firstly young participants were thanked with certificates of commendations for their submissions into our second annual YAMA Young Person's Photography Competition, with the theme of Culture & My Community. Runners up and winners were announced for each of the 4 age categories, and their eye-catching photographs were displayed on the screen for all to appreciate. Full list of winners can be found here.
Following this were the announcements for runners up and winners of the coveted star awards. The stories told about the individual nominees were unique, inspiring and at times emotional. The people recognised at the awards evening were all exceptional, going above and beyond their call of duty, to not only support children and young people in their lives, but to inspire them for the future.
It was a glorious evening that not only recognised and rewarded the great work going on in the children and young people's sector in Herts, but shone a spotlight on those doing this, to share great role models, great practice and above all, great children's and youth work.
Thank you to all those who submitted photographs, nominated their stars and carried out such great work to make the Pro-Action Member Awards such a memorable event.
We received lots of great feedback from attendees who expressed their enjoyment of being able to share the special occasion with our other Members and guests.
One guest said: 'Well done on the evening, it is vital to recognise the third sector and the volunteering workforce'.
Another commented 'wonderful event, very enjoyable and heartwarming'.
